Mentoring
MENTOR APPLICATION
The Linda Lorelle Scholarship Fund Mentoring Program is designed
to be meaningful to both mentor and mentee. The time of both
mentor and mentee is precious. We do not prescribe one-on-one
meetings other than LLSF planned functions for program
participants; the Fall Introduction Seminar and Appreciation
event. Each mentoring relationship will be unique and
established by the participants, and mainly accomplished through
telephone, email or correspondence. Mentors are not to take on
the role of therapist.
Occasionally, a mentee will have a serious problem. Though this arises infrequently, you may be asked to help with the problems for which you are not qualified. Recognize your limitations and do not exceed them. You are not a psychologist, psychiatrist, drug counselor or social-service worker. Instead, connect you mentee with the Linda Lorelle Scholarship Fund’s office.
TYPICAL PROBLEMS
Problems with
friends and family – Ask questions, but remember your role. It
is not your job to take the place of a mentee’s family. Help
clarify feelings, and give advice only when asked.
Problems in school – Assess the source of the conflict. Is
there one particular class your mentee finds troublesome? Is the
conflict with one teacher? Is there a need to develop better
study habits?
Problems at work – Get all the facts. A number of factors can
contribute to dissatisfaction with a job. Clarify the problem
before trying to offer a solution.
